The Marchen Mærsk, Marit Mærsk, Margrethe Mærsk, Mette Mærsk, Mathilde Mærsk, Maren Mærsk, Majestic Mærsk, Marie Mærsk, Magleby Mærsk, McKinney Mærsk, Madison Mærsk and Mayview Mærsk were delivered between 1988 and 1991 and had a stated capacity of approx. n 3900 TEU, but the capacity for empty containers was 4437 TEU. These C11 ships largely had the dimensions of the C10 ships, but had a deeper draft of 14 m and could carry 4826 TEU. United States Lines acquired all of these lines after it acquired Moore-McCormack in 1983 and Delta shortly after. MISC commissioned the Bunga Pelangi in 1992 and the Bunga Pelangi Dua followed three years later, while Nedlloyd commissioned the two larger UCCs in 19994-95, the Nedlloyd Hongkong and Nedlloyd Honshu. APL also launched the APL China, APL Japan, APL Korea, APL Singapore, APL Thailand and APL Philippines in 1995. In 1989, Wallenius and CGM were bought out and Cunard sold the Atlantic Conveyor to ACL in 1995, while CGM sold the Atlantic Cartier in 1996. ACL then had the new conro ACL G3 series built, the Atlantic Companion and Atlantic Compass from Transatlantic, the Atlantic Concert from Wallenius, the Atlantic Conveyor from Cunard and the Atlantic Cartier from CGM. However, ACL had undergone the necessary changes. In 1988, Transatlantic was acquired by Bilspedition and began taking over ACL. To fill capacity, it chartered three to TFL and two to Nedlloyd (American Nebraska as Nedlloyd Hudson and American New York as Nedlloyd Holland) in 1988, who then entered into a vessel sharing agreement (VSA) with weekly service. For this it would build 24 ships of 1954 TEU. Furthermore, the Atlantic Lady and European Express of 1646 teu were delivered and six open ships of the Norasia-Fribourg class of 3429 teu were built for Norasia between 1993 and 1996. The Ever Goods, Ever Guest, Ever Group and Ever Given followed in 1986. Four more were added in 1987-88, but with an additional 40-foot hold, so that the Ever General, Ever Gaining, Ever Glamor and Ever Garland could carry 2940 TEU. In the end, only the Ever Guard was built like this, the Ever Guide and Ever Going were increased to 2240 TEU. The Sietas yard in Hamburg has built several series of open ships, the Sietas type 160 of 700 teu, the Sietas type 168 of 862 teu and the Sietas type 178 of 1425 teu. Hapag-Lloyd increased capacity in 1991 by removing the longitudinal stringers for the coamings on the Hanover Express, Leverkusen Express, Dresden Express, Hoechst Express, Ludwigshafen Express, Essen Express, Stuttgart Express and Hamburg Express. At the time, American shipping companies did not have the financial resources to build container ships for services to South America and still transported the containers here with general cargo ships. In view of these risks, Sea-Land ultimately did not follow through with these plans.
